About message summaries
Copy link
You can quickly catch up on conversations by asking Meta AI to summarize unread messages you’ve received. If you choose to use this feature, only you can see your message summaries and they’ll disappear when you scroll away from the summary or exit the chat. Responses from Meta AI are generated by artificial intelligence (AI), using a service from Meta.
To enable message summaries, Meta AI uses Private Processing, a secure technology from Meta. This technology allows Meta AI to generate a summary of your unread messages while ensuring no one, not even Meta or WhatsApp can read your personal messages or Meta AI’s response. Using Meta AI through WhatsApp, including features that use Private Processing, is always optional.
Note:
- Meta AI and some experiences are currently only available in limited countries and might not be available to you yet, even if others in your country have access.
- At this time, only English, Indonesian, Portuguese, and Spanish are supported.
As always, your personal messages are protected with end-to-end encryption, meaning no one outside of the chat, not even WhatsApp or Meta, can read, listen to, or share them.
How it works
About Private Processing
To enable message summaries, Meta AI uses Private Processing, a secure technology from Meta. Personal messages needed to complete your request are sent encrypted to secure Meta AI servers, where they’re used to complete your request without any data being stored. You can learn more about Private Processing in this article.
You can request to create and download a report of your Private Processing activity at any time. Learn how in this article.
Summarize your messages
To summarize your messages, you’ll be prompted to accept terms and will need to tap Continue. You’ll need to turn on Private Processing features and will be prompted to accept terms if you haven’t already for other Private Processing features. Learn how in this article.
Note:
- Some messages generated by AI might not be accurate or appropriate.
- Meta uses AI chats consistent with Meta’s Privacy Policy. By using this feature, you agree to Meta’s AI Terms of Service. When you share your personal messages with AI features that use Private Processing technology, Meta can’t read or access the messages you have shared.
